it was on a month or two ago it was about a teacher who moves to new york and teaches a class of juvenile delinquents and they have the best test scores of the whole school at the end of the year. so the teacher takes them to see the phantom of the opera but one childs stepfather beats him for drawing a portrait of the phantom on his wall and the movie ends with him going into a foster house

It is about a teacher (played by Matthew Perry) who surpasses everyone's expectations and changes the lives of a group of children, even making the class receive the highest average results in the state, surpassing the 'honors class'. And, yes, they do get to see 'Phantom of the Opera' at one point and one kid did get abused by his father when he drew on the wall.
