How much is a porcelain doll worth ?
Does anybody know how much a porcelain doll is worth ? it is about 31cm high and wears a long white dress with a few roses around . on the label inside her dress it says movitex . the hands , arms and legs and head is all porcelain . the body is made of foam . it is also comes with a box . and the doll itself looks quite old .Thankyou
I am not sure what you mean by a foam body, If it was foam it would not stand correctly more than likely stuffed with cotton type material if poly it will have bags of beads for weights. Most antiques have a composition/and wood type of jointed body or leather filled with tightly packed saw dust. Old china or parians can have also tightly packed bodies with sawdust as well.
New cast dolls from the 70's on had the Porcelain legs and arms with cloth bodies. So I would say that would be the start of the ear of the doll.
They often used molds made to represent the antiques but your label on the dress is the give away. (tex) is later fabric.
Now lift the hair on the back of the head and see what the mark says. What about the top of the box?
All dolls even antiques are marked there. This will help you id your doll. As a collector and seller of dolls, once you have that then the price can be decided. But do not count on a lot of money with this economy!
