can a speedball highfire glaze be fired to cone 10?
I have a bunch of speedball paintable glazes that I used at a different community studio. They fired earthenware and I beilve was pretty low fire. I am not using a studio that primarly uses Stoneware and fires to a cone 10. Will I be able to use my speedball glazes or will the color burn up? I miss being able to decorate w/ color and the regular "dunking" glazes are much to muted for my taste. I love rich colors. Would I be able to put them on greenware then have them bisqued then put a clear glaze on top to be fired to cone 10? I currently am using Trina Buff or Loafers Glory clay. (I don't know much about firing and kiln stuff.. only making and designing pottery). I am also thinking about trying the Mocha technique which I know uses slip (I haven't worked much w/ slip either). Pottery peeps I need your help!
You need to have a discussion with the teacher
Some studios may do special firings if enough students request or if you are willing to only have your pieces fired at the end
You may be recommended to make some test tiles Small pieces that can stand up 3 or 4 inches high maybe with some texture on one side. Test tiles are a way to see how a glaze or under-glaze fires
I saw the speed ball glazes there are some cone 6 and some cone 05
I have known some people putting glazed pieces in the bottom of a bisque kiln for cone 05
This is something that needs to be discussed with the teacher
