Are violent people making a conscious choice to act on their violent actions?
My often hot headed husband, bipolar on meds 2 yrs, had an episode of grandiosity today that led to a huge blow up. As my husband went to replace the lid on a large pottery urn, I say it in his face, should I just put the lid in place or slam it down and break it for effect?. He knew how important the urn was to me, looked right at me and, I believe, DECIDED to break it for effect. Well then, how long do I plan to put up with this? His meds have helped over the last few years. Is it possible he needs a meds adjustment?

Hey lady. Yes, you know who this is. I am so sorry to read this. I read the 2 posts that are here. Yes, his meds do need to be adjusted but he will be going through that the rest of his life. The only thing I read here that is a really valid point is: Meds are no help, they'll cause more damage in the long run.
As you know I had left Mike and yes he is bi-polar. One reason I left is he never told me he was bi-polar. I found out from his Mom that he has bouts of depression. Well, with me being in medical school I put all the signs and symptoms together. But before I left, since he was unemployed, I found him a program where he got the psychiatrist, therapist, meds and this all for free. Then I found him a support group. At that time I did not love him, I felt sorry for him so I used IF YOU LOVE ME, YOU WILL GO. Well, he did. I left him and moved a state away but he still had my phone number for support. Well, he is now employed but I did find out he is lying alot to people.
What I am saying, the behavior never really gets better! They depend on the meds. After a while immune to them and they do not know, just the one closest to them that suffers.
